The visual arts program at Lilydale West engages our children to actively participate in drawing, painting, printmaking, clay, construction, threads and textiles, collage and art appreciation
Artists in Residence are employed to assist with major art works that now adorn our school buildings. These include an indoor Indonesian garden with a mosaic forest background, large batik painting with endangered species as the main art theme, an indigenous mural depicting the history of Lilydale, a magnificent ceramic Chinese dragon set against a backdrop of an Asian village and ceramic zodiac signs. Our most recent works are the 8 pillars of Global Connection and the Creation and Sustainability Mandala . At the completion of each of these works, a cultural day or evening was organized and attended by a large crowd of very supportive families.
The high standard of art work that our students produce has resulted in them winning many art competitions, some of which are at the state level. Art exhibition evenings highlight these talents.
A studies of Asia unit looks at particular Asian art, for example, batik painting, calligraphy, kite making, tie dying, masks and so forth. This art unit compliments our L.O.T.E. program, which is Indonesian

In 2004 some of our students made mosaics that represent their sports teams and others painted a large mural of our school community. These art works now decorate our canteen walls. In 2005 our level 4 students worked with artist, Pamela Irving, to create the "Eight Pillars of Global Connection"
In 2007 our level 3 children created with artist, Karen Scott, our magnificent Creation and Sustainability MA studies of Asia unit looks at particular Asian art, for example, batik painting, calligraphy, kite making, tie dying, masks and so forth.
