Grounds

The large grounds of Lilydale West Primary School are an extension of the learning environment of the classroom, as well as a fun place to play and enjoy lunchtime. They provide plenty of space for children to be physically active under good supervision..
Three large adventure playgrounds are located at different places in the grounds. All have soft fall mulch underneath the play equipment, and are shaded by native trees or shade cloth. The playground near the oval is mainly used by the Level 3 - 4 children and includes a rock climbing wall.
The red playground area is located in the area between the junior and senior buildings. It is shaded by beautiful native trees, with a delightful outlook of Mount Dandenong. It is mainly used by the Level 1-2 students.
A train playground and sandpit, both covered by shade-cloth make up the main Prep Playground equipment. Here the Prep children can play without the worry of the bigger and older children.
An outdoor classroom with fixed seats and tables and covered by shade sails is on the Wilson's Lane border of the school. It is well used in the warmer months as an outdoor classroom or a quiet place to sit in the shade and talk or play games at recess. It is large enought to accommodate a class of stud ents.
A unique feature of Lilydale West Primary School is it's Sound Shell. Overlooking the oval the Sound Shell is used for outdoor productions and social events.
The Oval has goal posts at either end and has a fitness track with activity stations running around the perimeter of the Oval.
These are the cricket nets, located between the basketball courts and the oval.
The Basketball courts are used for many sports activities as well as during recess and after school.
As part of the learning environment, Lilydale West Primary School has extensive garden areas planted with mostly native and some exotic species. Large beautiful trees are a significant feature of our grounds. We also have extensive herb and vegetable gardens. The school is part of the Sustainable Schools program, through which we endeavour to develop a sense of pride in the school environment and encourage the children to take part in projects that foster understanding of the conservation and care of their environment.
