Level 4 Interschool Sport Policies and Processes

Below you will find information to clarify the policies and processes of the Level 4 Interschool Sport Program.

  • The $30 that we are request is a ‘participation fee’ and covers both seasons in Interschool Sport in Terms 1 & 2.  In previous years the children were asked to bring along a $5 fee for each ‘away’ game, that they were selected to play in.  We found this to be difficult to manage due to the constant payments having to be processed through the school office.  Parents also found this process to be a nuisance and sometimes unfair.  For example, if your child so happened to play most of the away games and a small number of home games, the costs would be very high for you.   If your child played more home games than away games, the costs would be quite low.
  • We will endeavour to involve each child in a reasonable number of away games per year.  All Level 4 children will travel to the away games, even if they have not been selected to compete.  Away games and home games are regarded as equal.  Meaning that if your child only plays home games for the season, this doesn’t mean that you don’t have to pay the $30.  The $30 is regarded as a participation fee, whether the children play home games or away games.
  • Grade 6 children have priority when it comes to the selection of teams at the beginning of each season.  They will also be involved in more games than the grade 5 students.  The idea is that Interschool Sport is running on a two year cycle and therefore when the Grade 5’s for 2009 are in Grade 6 in 2010, they will have priority when it comes to sport selection and will play in more games than the Grade 5’s at the time.
  • At Lilydale West we pride ourselves on the way in which we conduct ourselves in interschool competitions.  Other schools and program organisers continually communicate to us about how impressed they are with the maturity and good nature of our students.  Throughout the junior years (Prep – Grade 4) at Lilydale West, the children are taught to participate in a fair, sporting and friendly manner when involved in sporting competitions.  It is then an expectation that at Level 4, all children exhibit these skills.  A ‘win at all costs’ attitude is absolutely discouraged.

If you have any questions about the above information please approach myself, Warren Macnee or the other Level 4 Teachers.
